Land Drainage and
Groundworks Contractors
WJ & S Rimmer
History
Here at WJ & S Rimmer contractors we have a proud history stretching back over 50 years to 1968, when William Rimmer decided to form his own land drainage business. Purchasing a used JCB 3C backhoe loader, he quickly gained a reputation for completing work to a high standard at a competitive price- we still carry out work for our first customers to this day. William was joined by his son Stephen in the late 1970's with the pair working together until Williams retirement in the early 2000's.
In the late 1970's, with an increasing workload, the business relocated to a new yard at Ripley. With a high demand for land drainage, helped by government grant aid, the company purchased its first land drainage trencher, a Bruff BH3, in 1982. After the grant aids were removed in the late 1980's, we diversified to offer other excavation work, including pond and lagoon excavations, shed bases and farm tracks.
In 2000 we moved to a new site 3 miles south of Boroughbridge where it operates from today. Stephen is now joined by eldest son James who is keen to carry on the family tradition.
